Historical County Boundaries Knowledge Graph (HCB-KG)

The Historical County Boundaries Knowledge Graph (HCB-KG) represents US counties and states that have undergone continuous changes in their geometries over time, mirroring real-world dynamics.

We utilise or provide the following resources:

Atlas of Historical County Boundaries (AHCB)

The HCB-KG is based on the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries (AHCB). that serves as data source of historical geospatial knowledge. It contains the polygons of all 50 US states and their counties per period of time, the description of the change that occurred at the start date along with a reference to the source of data for the described change.

Historical County Boundaries Ontology (HCB-O)

The Historical County Boundaries Ontology (HCB-O) enables the semantic representation of AHCB. More details are shown here.

Historical County Boundaries Knowledge Graph (HCB-KG)

The Historical County Boundaries Knowledge Graph (HCB-KG) results from mapping AHCB to HCB-O and represents US states and counties with their changes over times and the events that have caused them. See here for a SPARQL endpoint to the HCB-KG with example SPARQL queries. 10.5281/zenodo.11508198 / Dataset VoID description
